Ivan Vasyliovych Serhiyenko, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Informatics Department). Since 1996, Head of Informatics Department of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Director of V. Glushkov Cybernetics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; since 1995 Director General of Cybernetics Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Chief Editor of international magazine Cybernetics & System Analysis; member of the Committee on State Prizes of Ukraine in scientific and technical sectors; Head of Informatization Advisory Board at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine; Head of the National Committee of Ukraine on Informatics; Deputy Head of the National Committee of Ukraine on System Analysis; Head of Scientific Board on Cybernetics Issues at the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; member of the Presidium of Ukrainian Peace Protection Committee; Head of Computational Mathematics Chair Affiliate of T. Shevchenko Kyiv National University; Head of Theoretical Cybernetics and Optimal Control Methods Chair of Moscow Physico-technological Institute. In 1959, graduated from T. Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Mechanics and Mathematics Department; in 1964, defended a thesis for Candidate's and Doctor's degree on methods for optimization and modeling of complex processes, mathematical software for computers and systems.

Honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine; since 1978, Associate Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Academician of the International Academy of Computer Sciences and Systems; member of American Mathematical Society; Laureate of Ukrainian state prizes in science and techniques (1972, 1993, 1999), USSR state prizes in science and techniques (1983), state prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (1981), V. Glushkov prize of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1986), S. Lebedev prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1997). In 1983, was awarded Peoples' Friendship Order; 1986 - Diploma of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of the USSR. Diploma of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (2000); Honorable distinction of the President of Ukraine (1996); Order of Merit of the 3rd (1996) and 2nd (1998) grade. Author (co-author) of about 450 scientific works on solving problems of discrete optimization, system analysis theory, development of mathematical software for computers and advanced intellectual systems, in particular, 15 monographs: 'Mathematical models and methods for solving problems of discrete optimization' (1985, 1988), 'Models and methods for solving combinatory optimization problems with a computer' (1981, co-author), 'Formation and development of informatics research' (1998), 'Informatics in Ukraine: formation, development, problems' (1999).
