Project of Ukrainian Federation of Informatics
Project "Expert Estimation of Expediency to Start Producing Nickel-Metal-Hydride Batteries and Amorphous Silicon-Based Photoelectric Converters under Energy Conversion Devices Licenses (Troi, MI, USA) in Ukraine"
Year - 1999
Purpose: To thoroughly expertise scientific, production and market aspects of the business plan introduced by ECD. To work out alternative technical and economic substantiations for producing the above items with regard to domestic achievements, know-how and licenses and to prepare business plans for organizing their production on the basis of operating Ukrainian enterprises.
Project Manager: Candidate of Engineering Vasyl Senchenko.
Participating performers:
- V.M. Glushkov Cybernetics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
- Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
- Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
- I.M. Frantsevych Institute of Materials Science Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
- Inter-Departmental Division of Electrochemical Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
- Kyiv National Technical University "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute";
- State Enterprise "Scientific and Research Institute of Microdevices" (Kyiv);
- Scientific and Production Firm "ROST" (Kyiv).
For efficient performance of the project, key scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and specialists in relevant fields were involved; a business trip to ECD was organized for a Ukrainian delegation; field analysis was performed for productive and scientific and technical potential of 9 domestic enterprises; consultations were delivered and negotiations were held with several foreign firms (Germany, China, Japan) competing with ECD in the world market.
Primary results:
- Expert Estimation of Developing Production of Nickel-Metal-Hydride Batteries in Ukraine (see Appendix);
- Report (based on ECD materials) on Expediency to Start Producing Amorphous Silicon-Based Photoelectric Converters in Ukraine (see Appendix);
- Technical and economic substantiation of project "Organization of Production of Photoelectric Converters in Ukraine";
- Technical and economic substantiation of project "Manufacturing Production of Lithium-Ionic Batteries in Ukraine" (production capacity is 250 thous. units per quarter; investment amount is 800,000 US$; payback period is 2 years);
- Technical and economic substantiation of project "Organization of Production of Nickel-Metal-Hydride Batteries in Ukraine" (investment amount is 3,100,000 US$; output is 1 mln. units for the 2nd production year, 5 mln. units for the 5th production year; payback period is 4 years).
Apart from this, on the initiative of scientific and research economic institute of the Ministry of Economy, the UFI worked out the following business plans:
- "Organization of production of disk and button lithium elements";
- "Organization of production of disk and cylindrical lithium-ionic batteries";
- "Organization of commercial production of lithium power sources and supercondensators for developing the market of the CIS countries, India and South-East Asia countries";
besides, propositions were developed on chemical power sources problems for business planning of co-production with the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Preliminary negotiations were held with prospect investors to the above projects.
The results obtained have facilitated, in particular, organizing production in Ukraine of small-sized lithium and lithium-ionic elements, power sources and supercondensators, which is now successfully developing.
